A recap of transcending boundaries

The introduction to Transdisciplinary training

Last week, during the two-day training “Transcending Boundaries: A Practical Introduction to Transdisciplinarity,” researchers and professionals gathered at the Healthy Start Hub in Rotterdam to explore what transdisciplinary work means in practice.

What immediately stood out was the open, curious atmosphere: from the very beginning, participants were invited not only to learn new concepts but, above all, to bring in their own expertise. Together we examined our own assumptions, perspectives, and collaboration styles.

During the two-day training the group was first introduced to the term transdisciplinarity. With use of Dixit cards, case studies, making zines and listening exercise, we learned about Inner Development Goals, Power Dynamics, our personal Mindset and Epistemic Awareness. Next to the practical exercises, the trainers also provided a lot of theoretical background. Throughout the training, reflection was key. First we learned on how to effectively reflection, which we used during the two days. At the end of the training, reflection was done by writing a Haiku.

Edges start to blur
Curiosity strikes deep
Futures take their shape

This training was a dry run from the education teams of Resilient Delta and Healthy Start. These teams are working on providing insights for transdisciplinary collaborations. We believe that working together transcending boundaries, institutions and disciplines will help transform the world we live in.
