The consultation room highlighted on Erasmus MC’s yearly public lecture

On Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, Erasmus MC’s annual free public lecture took place in a packed Doelen. The theme of this year’s Lof der Geneeskunst was ‘The consultation room of the future’. Presenting on stage was TU Delft professor Richard Goossens, one of the initiators of the Convergence Flagship project Consultation Room 2030. Together with Erasmus MC professor of clinical genetics Tjitske Kleefstra and EUR professor of transition science Jan Rotmans, he envisioned a new future of the consultation room.

What different innovations can we expect in the consulting room in the coming years? Richard Goossens warned against inventors who try to innovate with blinders on, without taking the complexity of healthcare into account. So what should be done? ‘It is better to work together, as we now do, with TU Delft, Erasmus MC and Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Convergence.’

Within Consultation Room 2030, Richard investigates how we can make the role of the consulting room smaller and smaller. By treating effectively and more in one’s own living environment and preventing diseases or diagnosing them earlier. All while keeping an eye on the human dimension. Because, says Richard, ‘It’s also about a pat on the shoulder, giving a hug.’
