Erasmus MC
Healthy Start Ambition Co-Lead, Neonatologist
Rob Taal is one of the (co-)leads of Healthy Start for the Ambition ‘Childrens’s Hospital of the Future’. Together with Saba Hinrichs, he provides direction to this ambition, which aims to connect medical, technical and social sciences with healthcare professionals, children, and their families. With technological innovations and solutions, he wants to make and keep healthcare accessible and personalized. The ambition focuses on implementing telemedicine in healthcare, integrating robotics in care processes, and improving job satisfaction for all healthcare providers.
In addition to his role as (co-)lead, Rob is a pediatrictian-neonatologist at the Erasmus MC – Sophia Childrens’ Hospital in Rotterdam. Here, he works with the smallest and most vulnerable newborn patients. Together with PhD candidate Josephine Wagenaar, he is working from the Healthy Start ambition Teleneonatology to improve remote care and facilitate transfers between hospitals. His research outside of Healthy Start focuses on the use of data, machine learning techniques, and technological innovations to improve care for children in the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. For this research, he collaborates with various partners, including Dr. Michel van Genderen at the DataHub of Erasmus MC, to advance technological solutions for pediatric and neonatal intensive care.
