Healthy Start Fellow

Jelle is a postdoctoral researcher and technical physician at the Healthy Start initiative ‘Active lifestyle for children with chronic disease’. With his research he focusses on how to empower children with chronic diseases and their families through an evidence-based smart digital platform. This work aims to increase physical activity in the daily lives of children with a chronic disease to improve their quality of life. For the development of the digital platform, key determinants for physical activity are being studied using various qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

He aims to bring together various strategies such as wearable data tracking, personalized support, gamification, and psychological support in the digital platform. To achieve this, he will collaborate with various parties, including STAMINA, the So Fit & Fun Center, and multiple academic medical centers, to combine expertise and incorporate various perspectives.

In close collaboration with among others Dr. Arend van Deutekom, Dr. Ir. Jiwon Jung, Prof. Dr. Renske Keizer, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Maaike Kleinsmann, it is Jelle’s goal is to create an innovative digital platform that improves the well-being and physical activity of children with chronic diseases.
