Healthy Start Academic Lead, Professor in Design for Inclusive Sustainable System Interventions

Jan Carel Diehl, professor at TU Delft and Medical Delta professor at Erasmus MC, focuses his research on making healthcare accessible and reducing environmental impact through systemic design, combining systems thinking and human-centered design. With more than 30 years of experience in Design for Sustainability, he is the author of UN-design manuals and widely accepted books on sustainable product-service systems.

In addition to being one of the Academic Leads of Healthy Start, he is also co-leader of various other projects, including He ESCH-R (Evidence-based Strategies to create Circular Hospitals), ZEE (Transition towards Zero Emission Endoscopy), and DESHEALTH (Sustainable Healthcare education). He has published more than 250 academic articles, supervised more than 300 MSc graduates, successfully completed 10 PhDs, and has been the winner of a series of Design for Sustainability Awards.
