PhD, Cost-effectiveness

Anne Boxem is a PhD candidate for Generation R Next linked to the Healthy Start ambition ‘The first 1000 days and a resilient life course’. She is researching the cost-effectiveness of preconception lifestyle interventions. Her work aims to examine to what extent the investments in preconception care lead to a feasible financial return in the future. Using cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analyses, Anne examines the short- and long-term health outcomes of preconception programs for mothers and children, providing insights into the economic benefits for stakeholders such as governments and healthcare insurers.

By conducting a systematic review, potential meta-analyses, a cost-effectiveness analysis and a cost-benefit analysis, Anne’s research highlights the true value of preconception care. Her findings aim to support informed decision-making in healthcare policy and resource allocation.

Supervised by Prof. Dr. Vincent Jaddoe, Dr. Romy Gaillard, Dr. Fernando Secomandi, and Dr. Marten Poleij, Anne’s work contributes to Healthy Start’s mission by trying improve health outcomes while ensuring cost-efficiency.
