About Us
Tackling today’s global challenges requires resilience. Especially in delta regions, which are home to more than two-thirds of the world’s largest cities and where the effects of climate change and other socio-economic stresses are hitting particularly hard. With the Dutch delta as our living lab, our transdisciplinary research helps delta regions worldwide become more resilient in the face of urgent issues such as rising water levels, extreme weather, pollution, poverty, inequality and technological change.
Our research projects focus on three interconnected themes: delta systems, cities, and ports. Through transdisciplinary research and partnerships with companies, governments and civil society, we develop long-term resilience strategies. We develop actionable, scalable solutions—policies, innovations, and practical tools—that address critical issues in urban delta regions. Collaborating with public and private sector leaders, our hubs in Rotterdam and Delft serve as innovation centers for research and co-creation.
Our Themes

Delta Systems
What are the trends, shocks and stresses and considered interventions in particular elements of the urban delta system, and how are these interrelated?

City
How do multifaceted problems in cities lead to increasing social inequalities within and across generations, and how can interventions contribute to an equal quality of living?

Port
Our Cross-Cutting Approaches

Methodology
Find out how we design and develop methods and processes to bring together diverse scientific disciplines, academic and non-academic (public and private) partners, taking residents along in a co-creation process.

Labs & Communities
Our Labs & Communities cut across our research themes and aim to enable researchers and partners to collaborate in a more accessible, structural and transdisciplinary manner. We do this also with a series of real live lab facilities.

Education
Learn how our educational program focuses on tackling real-world challenges in the Dutch delta. Using an interdisciplinary approach, we prepare students to become the next generation of changemakers.
