ON RECORD focuses on tackling societal polarization among young people, a challenge that continues to shape public debate and social cohesion. The project explores how we can move beyond “debating to win” toward “listening to connect,” enabling more meaningful conversations across differences. Central to the project is recorded delivery, a form of verbatim theatre in which performers present real-life testimonies word for word, helping audiences engage with different perspectives. The project is a collaboration between researchers and partners including SYNC Lab, TIME OUT., and Albeda, combining academic expertise with creative practice and community engagement.

Through the Lowlands Science programme, researchers present socially relevant work and engage directly with thousands of festival visitors, who can actively take part in experiments and discussions. For ON RECORD, this setting offers a unique opportunity to connect with young people directly, an audience that is both deeply affected by polarization and essential to overcoming it. They are invited to start conversations with others and to reflect on their own role in bridging divides.
