A new, more contagious variant of the mpox virus, better known as the monkeypox virus, is spreading rapidly. But this outbreak is not isolated. What does it mean for public health? In an interview on NPO Radio 1, Dr. Anja Schreijer, medical director of the PDPC, answers questions about the virus, its spread and the likelihood of a new pandemic, among other things. She also explains what a state of emergency entails. In addition, Anja calls on the new cabinet to continue investing in public health and pandemic preparedness.
