Sprint project: ‘Xposed’

A Gamified Solution to Study Pornographic Stereotypes
Project lead: Lotte Mikkers (EUR)
Partners:
Team: Dr. Oscar Oviedo-Trespalacios (TU Delft), Prof. Dr. Willem de Koster (EUR), Dr. Samira van Bohemen (EUR), Dr. Karolien van Nunen (TU Delft)
Duration: January 2025 till December 2025

This project develops and pilot-tests an innovative online game to explore how young people (16-25) perceive pornographic stereotypes. Inspired by Guess Who?, the game encourages participants to reflect on associations and perceptions concerning pornographic stereotypes. This tool will help researchers understand how these stereotypes shape perceptions of sex and gender roles. In the future, the game could be used in further studies and as an educational tool in porn literacy programs to promote healthier and more equitable sexual attitudes.

The project has moved from concept to physical reality: we 3D printed the board game at TU Delft and now have a fully functional physical version ready for use in research settings. We also produced recruitment videos for our study, which will be published later this year, when data collection begins.
