Innovation Lab
Innovation Lab
The Innovation Lab (I-Lab) is a unique facility within Erasmus MC, where education, research, and innovation come together in one physical space to transform patient care and healthcare education.
Connected to the SkillsLab & Simulation Center, teams co-develop and evaluate training methods (XR/VR, AI, robotics, motion/eye-tracking) and optimize skills training for healthcare professionals. The lab goes beyond training. It also provides a space to run experimental studies – including work with human specimens – to validate surgical techniques and devices.
In the I-lab you can experience:
The Cube
Step into an immersive motion-tracking cube that uses advanced cameras and sensors to analyze movement, eye gaze, and biomedical signals -providing performance feedback for skills training and education.
Biomechanical testing
Observe biomechanical strength and materials testing for implants, bone construct, in-house 3D prints and more. The resulting data is often used for device certification and surgical training research.
XR/VR Training Modules
Put on XR/VR headsets to explore interactive anatomy, photorealistic dissection scans, and immersive operating-room captures – rehearse procedures and acclimate safely to the clinical environment.
New ideas?
New ideas or equipment to test? Get in touch and let’s collaborate in the I-Lab.
Internal partners
The I-Lab is open to all colleagues within Erasmus MC. Whether you are a researcher, clinician, educator, or student. The lab can be used to develop teaching modules, test new approaches to skills training, or explore innovative technologies that support patient care. Interested in working with us? Please contact the I-Lab team to discuss opportunities.
External partners
The I-Lab actively collaborates with external parties, including medtech companies, and start-ups. We offer a professional environment to co-create, test, and validate prototypes, simulators, and digital healthcare solutions. Medical companies with new medical devices or implants can use the lab to test on human specimens or to obtain feedback from surgeons on new or developing instruments and methods. To explore collaboration possibilities, please reach out to our team. Intake conversations are used to match partner needs with facilities and expertise.
