About

Convergence Health & Technology

Convergence Health & Technology is a strategic collaboration between TU Delft, Erasmus MC and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Together with researchers, healthcare organisations, industry, governments and societal partners, we work on solutions for major healthcare and societal challenges through research, innovation and implementation.

Shaping the future of healthcare

Our healthcare system is under pressure. The Dutch population is ageing. One-third of the Dutch working population has a chronic condition, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or obesity, and this number is steadily increasing. The costs of our healthcare system are growing, and staffing has become increasingly difficult. These challenges threaten the accessibility, affordability, and sustainability of our healthcare system.

At Convergence Health & Technology, we propose re-evaluating the existing healthcare paradigms. For instance, we need a shift from individual care to population health management, from reactive to proactive, with prevention and early detection as its cornerstone. We need a change from “to cure or die” to chronic disease and lifestyle management aimed to add high-quality life years. And we need to treat individuals as precisely as possible, with minimal trauma, side effects, and costs as possible.

At Convergence Health & Technology, we believe these challenges require a fundamentally different way of working. The convergence of medical, engineering, and social sciences will be key to addressing the challenges and shifts listed above. By pursuing collaborative efforts, we can overcome existing barriers and stimulate scientific discovery and technological innovation while not overlooking the economic, ethical, psychological, and societal effects.

Convergence Health & Technology not only supports the development of innovations, but also helps create the conditions needed for implementation and societal impact — including ecosystems, infrastructure, collaboration networks and implementation pathways.

In doing so, we contribute to more accessible, sustainable and future-proof healthcare, with better health and quality of life for all.

From Convergence to impact

Across our programmes, researchers and partners work together on innovations that contribute to prevention, diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation and healthcare transformation. Convergence Health & Technology supports the pathway from research to implementation through: transdisciplinary research programmes, co-creation and clinical validation, shared infrastructure and innovation support, ecosystem and community building and implementation and scaling pathways. Mission & Vision

TU Delft, Erasmus MC and Erasmus University Rotterdam are on a mission to shape the future of health(care) in a transformative way to improve health and societal participation for all. We strive for:

  • Life-long health, from pre-birth to end of life
  • Socio-economic equality in health(care)
  • Prevention and early diagnostics to proactively maintain health
  • Individual-tailored precise medical treatment for all

We believe that our mission can only be achieved through Convergence: the process of integrating knowledge, expertise and methodology from different domains to form novel frameworks that foster scientific discovery and innovation.
