Shaping the future of healthcare

Our healthcare system is under pressure. The Dutch population is ageing. One-third of the Dutch working population has a chronic condition, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or obesity, and this number is steadily increasing. The costs of our healthcare system are growing, and staffing has become increasingly difficult. These challenges threaten the accessibility, affordability, and sustainability of our healthcare system.  

At Convergence Health & Technology, we propose re-evaluating the existing healthcare paradigms. For instance, we need a shift from individual care to population health management, from reactive to proactive, with prevention and early detection as its cornerstone. We need a change from “to cure or die” to chronic disease and lifestyle management aimed to add high-quality life years. And we need to treat individuals as precisely as possible, with minimal trauma, side effects, and costs as possible. 

The convergence of medical, engineering, and social sciences will be key to addressing the challenges and shifts listed above. By pursuing collaborative efforts, we can overcome existing barriers and stimulate scientific discovery and technological innovation while not overlooking the economic, ethical, psychological, and societal effects. In doing so, Convergence Health & Technology will contribute to overall health and quality of life for all.
