EPI-WIN webinar: Influenza – avian influenza H5: its evolution and associated risk
As part of the WHO EPI-WIN webinar series on influenza, a webinar was organized on March 25 with a focus on the H5 avian influenza, how it evolves, and the risk associated with it for humans, including H5N1. Speakers included Dr Sylvie Briand, Director, Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention (EPP) of the WHO, Dr Richard Webby, Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Animals and Birds, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA and prof. Ron A.M. Fouchier, Professor Molecular Virology of the Department of Viroscience, Erasmus MC Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Ron Fouchier presented about Avian influenza H5 virus evolution and ecology.
