In the first episode of ‘Champions like you’, the spotlight is on Milou. Born with a heart defect, Milou takes to the ice with Yara van Kerkhof, who truly understands her situation.

During this special skating experience, they talk about sports, challenges, and the confidence that grows when you meet someone who shows you what is possible. The afternoon is also about having fun, trying new things, and discovering where your own strengths lie.

Through her story, Milou shows that you don’t have to figure everything out on your own. Sometimes, a single encounter with a role model can make all the difference.

About Champions like you

‘Champions like you’ is a video series that encourages children with a disability or chronic condition to take up sports alongside an elite athlete who has a similar condition. The ‘Champions like you’ video project is funded by Convergence Healthy Start and Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital. Through this project, we demonstrate how sports can contribute to the health, self-confidence, and social participation of children and young people with a chronic condition or disability.
